Sambor Grucza is Professor at the University of Warsaw, Director of the Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication, Head of the Linguistics of Languages for Specific Purposes Department, Research Head of the Eye-Tracking Experimental Linguistics Laboratory, Research Head of the Corpus Linguistic Laboratory. 2008–2012 he was Dean of the Faculty of Applied Linguistics at University of Warsaw.

He is also editorial head of Lingwistyka Stosowana/ Applied Linguistics/ Angewandte Linguistik, Studi@ Naukowe, Warschauer Studien zur Germanistik und Angewandten Linguistik (Peter Lang, Frankfurt/M.) and a member of the editorial board of Kwartalnik Neofilologiczny, Studia Translatorica and Studien zur Deutschkunde. He is a member of several other international academic associations; President of the Polish Association of Applied Linguistics, and since 2012 an executive board member of the Polnischer Germanisten Verband. His research interests are: metalinguistics, text and discourse linguistics, translation studies, translation teaching, glottodidactics, business communication, and linguistics of languages for specific purposes. He is currently head of several international research projects. He is author of over 120 publications and co-author of 35 text books in the series "Dein Deutsch" for the study of German as a second language.

 

Justyna Alnajjar

Justyna Alnajjar is Associate Professor (dr hab.) at the Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication at the University of Warsaw. She received her PhD in applied linguistics, with a specialization in business communication from the University of Warsaw for her PhD thesis on ‘Specialist Communication in Global Corporations' (2012) and her postgradual degree in linguistics in 2016. Previously, she used to work for and collaborate with several global companies.

Justyna's main research interests lie in intercultural business and specialist communication, communication in virtual project teams, the use of English as the business lingua franca (BELF) and German as the business lingua franca, communication audit, specialist email discourse. She participates in various projects devoted to business communication.

Justyna is deputy editor of  Lingwistyka Stosowana/ Applied Linguistics/ Angewandte Linguistik, Kwartalnik Neofilologiczny, and Studi@ Naukowe . She is also a member of the Polish Association of Applied Linguistics, Internationale Vereinigung für Germanistik. She has been awarded several research scholarships, both national and international.

 

Jan B. Łompieś, PhD

Jan B. Łompieś teaches at the Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication at the University of Warsaw. He is a member of the Polish Association of Applied Linguistics. Earlier, he graduated from the Warsaw School of Economics and till the beginning of 2000 he held several managerial functions in international trade corporations as chairman and member of corporate boards as well as in diplomatic service.

His research interests include translation studies, glottodidactics, translation studies, linguistics of languages for specific purposes, specialist communication, and corporate communication. He is author of 18 publications.

 

 

Michał Wilczewski, PhD

Michał Wilczewski is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication at the University of Warsaw. In 2012 he earned a doctorate degree in the field of linguistics (linguistic communication, linguistic pragmatics and the language of mass media) on the basis of the doctoral thesis ‘Sposoby profilowania konfliktów zbrojnych w wybranych polskich i amerykańskich tekstach prasowych (na przykładzie operacji „Odyssey Dawn" w Libii)' [‘Methods of Profiling Military Conflicts in Chosen Polish and American Press Articles (the Case of "Odyssey Dawn" in Libya)']. His research interests include text linguistics, translation studies, anthropolinguistics, and cognitive linguistics.

 


Joanna Otocka MA

Joanna Otocka is a tutor at the Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication, Faculty of Applied Linguistics, University of Warsaw. In 2003, she graduated from the Institute of Applied Linguistics.

She specializes in teaching languages for specific purposes (English and Russian), as well as teaching translation of specialist texts. For many years, she has cooperated in the area of language support with large international corporations.

Her research interests include Business English as Lingua Franca and language interference within the confines of the former.

 

Karl-Hubert Kiefer, PhD

Karl-Hubert Kiefer has been working for over ten years as a DAAD-lecturer at the Warsaw School of Economics and for two years at Roedl&Partner office in Warsaw (audit, legal, management, IT and tax consulting) as an editor and translator. Karl holds the Ph.D. degree in German as a foreign language (doctoral thesis about communication competences in the professional field of tax advisory from TU Berlin (Steinmüller/Schlak)) where he‘s been teaching  for several years courses in professional communication (economics/law).

Karl works as Research Assistant at the German Department/BU Wuppertal (Efing) on his habilitation thesis about complexity and complexity management in sales conversations considering the example of optometric services. Apart from this, his current research interests lie in the field of (electronic) learning and teaching with particular focus on (transnational) professional communication.

 

Olaf Flak, PhD

Experience: Assistant Professor at the University of Silesia in Katowice (since 2010), Assistant Professor at the University of Economy in Katowice (2002-2012). Scientist and specialist in management, coach and business consultant, Managing Director of Konsultanci24.pl

Area of research: Application of the pattern recognition in management sciences (managerial behaviour, methods and managerial tools, competitiveness of enterprises). Author of the organizational size layout and research into the use of online tools to automate the work of managers and replace them with robots. Co-author of the book "Competitive will survive" (Pol. „Konkurencyjni przetrwają", see http://www.konkurencyjniprzetrwaja.pl/) and of the first Company Competitiveness Barometer in Poland, conducted annually since 2012.


Kristina Pelikan MA

Kristina Pelikan holds a master degree in linguistics with a master thesis on internal business communication.

Working for SwissTPH , she was in charge for the work package knowledge management and communication of an EUFP7 research project in the area of public health, led by the University of Edinburgh and Queen Mary University London. She led the corresponding working group with members in Africa, India and Europe. Further, Kristina gives support for research projects in terms of knowledge management, data management and communication.

Kristina is Research Assistant at the  Technische Universität Berlin. Supervised by Prof. Dr. Thorsten Roelcke, Kristina is working on her PhD thesis "Enhancing knowledge transfer by optimisation of the project communication at the AMASA project".

Kristina's main research interests are language for specific purposes, professional communication in business and academia, international and intercultural communication, virtual communication and knowledge management.

Kristina is member of the plattform for PhD students included in the research network "Sprache und Wissen" (Language and Knowledge) led by Prof. Dr. Ekkehard Felder (Heidelberg University), the Internationale Vereinigung für Germanistik, the German Association for Applied Linguistics, the German Association for Knowledge Management and she is coordinating Editor of Glottotheory (international journal for theoretical linguistics).
